All nail salons do pretty much the same thing. They make your toenails and fingernails pretty! The things that set one salon apart from any other is ambiance, cleanliness and staff. After visiting all of the salons listed above, I can tell you for certain where you want to go first.

All of the salons I visited are up to “code,” but that doesn’t mean they always look clean the day you walk in. The floors at Serenity looked a little on the dirty side the day that I was there. I get that there is a ton of dust from the mani/pedi process, but what I was seeing looked like spills of food or drink that had never been properly cleaned up. Luckily, I did not see ANY dirty foot spas (those little bathtubs for your feet) in any of the salons I visited. In addition, I witnessed a full cleanout of the foot spas after each customer in each of the nail salons.

If speed is a factor as it was for me (I was driving through to give a lecture and just needed to spruce up my fingernails a bit) you may want to stay away from the more luxurious nail spas like Signature and Nouvelle. If you have a day to kill, these are great spas and you get the full royal treatment. Eminence has fairly fast service; you can get in and out in under an hour for a full mani/pedi when they have enough staff.

Sugarcoat had the best selection of polish, but there pricing was a bit confusing. You had to pay both the manicure price and gel price together for the one gel polish service. They can be quick  when they are in the mood and the staff are all very friendly. Most often, though, you’re going to find they have no sense of urgency when it comes to getting your nails all done and you out the door.

Buckhead Nails has been a popular place for a long time. Unfortunately, the staff turnover is causing problems with the quality of their salon services for your nails. A check-in on FourSquare said:

“So I’ve always enjoyed this place however this last time. I was disappointed in the service. The lady that gave my manicure was hyper and rushing and did a poor job. I will be checking out other places.”

So, all-in-all, you many so many choices for your weekly or bi-weekly mani/pedi when in or near Atlanta, Georgia. If you are a resident of the city, you can take your time and shop around a bit to find a salon and manicurist that is the best fit for you.
